More than 100 Outdoor Brands Participated in the Outdoor Retailer and Outdoor Foundation Give Back Badge Program

More than 100 Outdoor Brands Participated in the Outdoor Retailer and Outdoor Foundation
Give Back Badge Program -- Supporting the Parks4Kids Initiative

The campaign engaged the industry in collective effort to get more kids out to visit their national park
and recreate outdoors, resulting in $25,000 raised for the cause

San Juan Capistrano, CA, September 6, 2016–
At Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2016, the new first-of-its-kind Give Back Badge program proved to be a successful way for the outdoor industry to give back while conducting business. Outdoor Retailer, in partnership with the Outdoor Foundation, launched the Give Back Badge to engage the entire industry in a collective effort to get more kids recreating outdoors at its launch, nearly 100 brands and businesses joining the cause with a financial commitment and proudly displaying their patches in support of the Parks4Kids program.

Attendees were asked during the Outdoor Retailer online registration process for a $15 donation, outdoor companies and individuals gave a park experience to a young person and got a special Outdoor Retailer Summer Market patch that featured commemorative, originally designed artwork from famed outdoor industry notable and 2015 Outdoor Inspiration award winner, Jeremy Collins. 1 badge = 1 kid outdoors. In total, 2,000 kids will experience a national park as a result of the effort.

“We’re thrilled at the early success and interest in this program, thanks to our partnership with Outdoor Retailer. For the first time, we were able to ask the entire industry to engage in a collective effort that has the potential to connect tens of thousands of young people with the outdoors,” said Chris Fanning, executive director of Outdoor Foundation. “We are proud of this success and it is still our goal that in future years, every single Outdoor Retailer attendee get involved, join their peers and help us get 35,000 kids outside. There is nothing more important to the future of the outdoor industry and the health of our outdoor places than inspiring a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts and stewards.”

Funds will be donated to the Parks4Kids program, an initiative of the Outdoor Foundation and Outdoor Industry Association, which supports projects across the country that connect young people to national parks. Launched at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2016, the program has already helped give outdoor experiences to more than 20,000 youth.

“Outdoor Retailer is proud to partner with the Outdoor Foundation in a collaborative effort to get kids outdoors. The Give Back Badge program is a wonderful opportunity to engage our community and support the Outdoor Foundation with their mission to get kids out to our national parks,” said Marisa Nicholson, VP and show director. “As a mother of two young boys, I have a nine year old that just entered the 4th grade, and I am excited to be part of a program that is getting 4th graders out to their national parks to enjoy and explore with their friends and schoolmates. And while he has experienced the outdoors many times through our own family adventures, not every child has that opportunity. I am both personally and professionally happy to be in the position to lend our support to this valuable program.”

Outdoor Retailer and the Outdoor Foundation will again execute the Give Back Badge program at Winter Market 2017. Attendees are encouraged to look for the opportunity to participate as they register for the show.
