Alpenglow Sports, Andy Janicki of Wheels to Waves, Big City Mountaineers, Jackie Timmins, and LifeStraw Honored, Skip Yowell Posthumously Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award
SALT LAKE CITY (January 8, 2016) – The sixth annual Outdoor Inspiration Awards, presented by adidas Outdoor, recognized the 2016 winners at a special recognition event January 8, 2016 at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. The Outdoor Inspiration Awards celebrates those that inspire others to participate in and support outdoor activities and the outdoor industry.
Winners included: Alpenglow Sports, in the retail category; Andy Janicki and his Wheels to Waves as the individual winner; Big City Mountaineers for non-profit; Jackie Timmins, as the Boy Scouts Youth Winner; and LifeStraw, taking top recognition for a manufacturer. adidas Outdoor presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to the late Skip Yowell, founder of JanSport and an industry icon. With an enhanced event format and DreamJobbing emcees, Alex Boylan and Burton Roberts, the celebration drew the largest crowd in the event’s history.

Non-Profit Winner: Big City Mountaineers - A no-frills non-profit with a heartfelt mission, Big City Mountaineers is using the lessons of the wilderness to tangibly change the lives of at-risk and under-served urban youth. http://www.bigcitymountaineers.org/
Retailer Winner: Alpenglow Sports - Alpenglow Sports hosts quality community events including its 10th annual Winter Film Series that provides the Tahoe community with free, world-class athlete presentations while raising over $60k for local non-profits. http://alpenglowsports.com/
Boy Scouts of America Youth Winner: Jackie Timmins – Timmins’ leadership and passion for the outdoors is reflected in her willingness to give back what she has learned to the community. She achieved the rank of Silver (Eagle Scout equivalent) and is currently completing her last requirement for the Ranger Award (Outdoor Expert).
