SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIF. – July 14, 2016 — Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, the premier trade event and community gathering featuring the best of the outdoor industry’s manufacturers and top retail buyers, will stage August 2–6, 2016, at the Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Summer Market begins with the annual Open Air Demo, Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Pineview Reservoir at the Cemetery Point location, in Huntsville, Utah. This location is ideal for the outdoor industry's hands-on demo event, kicking off the week of meetings and product launches. With prime beach-front access, outdoor gear, technology and accessories will take center stage, highlighting the best of the 2016/2017 product offerings.
The tradeshow floor will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, at the Salt Palace Convention Center (including the three outdoor Pavilions). This national stage gives exhibiting brands the opportunity to launch new product, allowing specialty retailers at the show a firsthand chance to discover all that’s new and exciting, write orders and plan for the coming season.
The 2016 show will feature educational sessions and networking opportunities:
RISE: Retail Inspired Specialty Excellence, NEW — Developed for specialty outdoor retailers by specialty retailers, RISE will provide you with an inspiring afternoon of education and collaborative peer-to-peer networking sessions. Retailers will leave with insight and resources that they will be able to put into action to improve their business and bottom line as soon as they get back to their store. RISE is hosted by the Outdoor Industry Association, Grassroots Outdoor Alliance and Outdoor Retailer. The registration deadline is Friday, July 29. Media Preview — The Outdoor Retailer Media Preview is designed to give attending media a sneak peek at new, innovative products being released and shown at Outdoor Retailer. Brands will have a unique platform to meet one-on-one with the attending media. Journalists attending will have exclusive access to preview some of the latest products and newest exhibitors in the outdoor industry before the show opens. The Media Preview takes place Tuesday, August 2, from 5 p.m.–7:30 p.m. at the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek. Media interested in attending can RSVP to email@example.com. BoardWalk (NEW!) – The BoardWalk is a buyer’s resource and shopping tool for SUP. A full quiver of boards will be displayed, representing the types of boards on the market today: racing, touring, all-around, surf, youth, inflatable, fishing, yoga/fitness, whitewater, hybrid and experimental. Buyers will learn about the design, features and construction of each board, along with information about ideal consumers, uses, considerations and price range. If you are in the SUP market, or want to be, don’t miss the BoardWalk in front of Pavilion 1.
The International Buyer Program – Outdoor Retailer and the U.S. Commercial Service (USCS) of the Department of Commerce, the official trade promotion agency of the federal government, are partnering for a second year to bring international retail buyers to the show. The program provides Outdoor Retailer exhibitors with a ready-made mechanism for developing and following up on foreign sales prospects, and support for brands looking to expand internationally. Plan to visit the International Trade Center in the West Lobby of the convention center. And come meet the international delegates and country specialist at the Made In America Working Group Happy Hour beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Day 1: Wednesday, August 3.
Forums at The Camp —Topics explored in The Camp will cater to the needs of specialty retailers, with sessions focused on retailer best practices, and retail digital sessions giving tips on how to capitalize on the digital age of marketing. Sessions will be led by industry leaders and retail and business experts. A full schedule can be found online and on the mobile app.
CampOR, powered by the Boy Scouts of America (and returning for a second time) — To help retailers maximize their hours and attention on the show floor, the Boy Scouts of America has once again partnered with Outdoor Retailer to host CampOR. This exclusive opportunity is free of charge to all Outdoor Retailer attendees, Days 1–4 of the show, August 3–6, from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Each day, kids from 6–16 will get to experience the best of the outdoors with fun, informative and safe daily sessions. Hiking, paddling and rowing are a few of the activities available to them at Millcreek Canyon, just outside of Salt Lake City. Industry Party — The industry party is one of the premier events designed to facilitate networking in a relaxed environment. The entire outdoor community is invited to join us for food, beer, music and fun on Wednesday, August 3, from 6–8 p.m. in the Street Scene area next to the Pavilions. Trend + Design Center — The Trend + Design Center anchors the supplier story at Outdoor Retailer and serves the design audience with compelling education and networking events specifically focused on their business needs. With more than 300 raw materials suppliers, Outdoor Retailer is the largest collection of suppliers, co-located with the largest selection of outdoor products, all under one roof. The Trend + Design Center will run throughout the show, Days 1–3, August 3–5, from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. and Day 4, August 6, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. in meeting room 155.
The Pavilions – The Pavilions house and feature the newest companies and products in the outdoor industry. This is the place for retailers to shop if their goal is to find new, innovative products and gear for their stores. The OR Paddle Tank, located outside the Pavilions, provides retailers with interactive outdoor experiences and testing opportunities.

The Shmooz — Now in its sixth year, the Shmooz by Malakye.com is the outdoor industry’s semi-annual recruiting event. This brings together the industry’s best companies and talent to discuss current and future job opportunities. Past participants have included many industry-leading companies, such as Petzl, Black Diamond Equipment, Backcountry.com, SCOTT Sports, Chums/Beyond Coastal, Jaybird Sport and Liberty Mountain.
