Outdoor Retailer and A+E Networks® Partner for Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards




A+E Networks’® Christian Murphy to host awards ceremony and unveil winners on November 8 at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market


Entry period for products and services open now through October 10

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif.—(October 4, 2018)—Outdoor Retailer, the largest U.S. tradeshow and premier business event for the outdoor industry, and A+E Networks® will partner to highlight the inaugural Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards this November. A+E Networks will develop short-form programming around the awards to air as part of the Outdoors programming block on FYI™ and HISTORY® networks, and Christian Murphy, A+E Networks’ Senior Vice President Enthusiast Brands & Programming Partnerships, will serve as host of the awards ceremony on November 8. The awards recognize innovation and achievements in the outdoor industry, and winners will be unveiled on the first night of Outdoor Retailer Winter Market at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

“The partnership with A+E Networks offers an incredible platform to showcase the people, products and brands shaping the future of the outdoor industry,” said Marisa Nicholson, Outdoor Retailer vice president and show director. “We are excited to have Christian Murphy as host of the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards. Through the broadcast media partnership with Outdoor Retailer, A+E Networks will produce exclusive content from the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards ceremony, featuring interviews with the brands entering the awards and highlighting the technical and innovative features of their products. The content will air as part of the “All You Need To Know” programming strand within the Outdoors block on FYI and HISTORY and during such shows as “Alone,” “Swamp People,” “Curse of Oak Island” and “Mountain Men.”

Outdoor Retailer and A+E Networks will also offer customized branded content advertising packages to key partners. The brand-supported exclusive content created around the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards will air during the outdoor programming blocks on both FYI and HISTORY, as well as online.

Murphy has been with A+E Networks for more than 10 years. He was in attendance at this year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Denver and serves as host of “All You Need To Know,” which showcases industry events, major tradeshows and markets. The segments from Summer Market began airing in the Outdoors programming block on both FYI and HISTORY in September.

At Winter Market, Murphy will host the live ceremony to announce the first winners of the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018. The ceremony will be held in the Mile High Ballroom at the Colorado Convention Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to registered attendees and media.

Brands and organizations interested in entering the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards can submit their product or service now through Oct. 10, 2018. Rules and the entry form can be found online at outdoorretailer.com/innovationawards. Finalists and winners will be selected by a panel of judges, and all finalist entries will be on display on the show floor throughout Winter Market.

Outdoor industry and event veteran Liz Ferrin is working with Outdoor Retailer to produce the awards and facilitate the A+E Networks partnership. Ferrin has also produced Outdoor Retailer’s Inspiration Awards and Sundance Film Festival activations, among other programs.

Outdoor Retailer Winter Market will launch the winter outdoor season as the tradeshow begins the new cycle in November. The four-day show runs Nov. 8-11, 2018 and will span nearly half a million square feet at the Colorado Convention Center. It will be co-located with the Grassroots Connect show. Registration and housing are open.

Winter Market will be the third of three shows hosted by Outdoor Retailer this year in Denver. In January, the Outdoor Retailer Snow Show was the first event in Denver, and the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market took place in July. The next Snow Show will be held January 30-February 1, 2019, back at the Colorado Convention Center.
