BEYOND THE SCREEN

In its sixth year, No Man’s Land Film Festival (NMLFF) is undefining what it means to be feminine and a woman in adventure, sports, and film. The four-day long virtual event kicks off March 4 ahead of International Women’s Day.

More than 40 films are featured in the lineup, including two films from the previous year’s Diversify Our Outdoors film program and a kids’ program. It’s also noteworthy that 53% of the films feature women of color or those who represent a more inclusive face of the outdoors.

“Ultimately, we want our audience to take what they see on the big screen out into the real world and keep pushing for these complex conversations about gender dynamics,” says Kathy Karlo, NMLFF executive director. “Women are stepping into the outdoor industry with a sense of passion and drive—we aim to champion these women with the respect and support that they deserve. Our ultimate mission transcends these films and No Man’s Land Film Festival acts as a platform for progressive thought and movement.”

Five panel discussions featuring 25 guest speakers showcase the festival’s commitment to inspiring change within the industry and cultivating interest in the woman’s point of view, as well as those of other identities outside the gender binary.

The panel topics are Women in Film and Photo, Athletes, Whose Land Are We Exploring On?, Leadership and Advocacy, and Allies in Gender Equality. Virtual yoga, a body positivity workout, a live podcast series, and keynote speaking events are also part of the celebration.

Ticket prices start at $20, and attendees can purchase them online at nomanslandfilmfestival.org/nmlff-2021. Films will be available from their respective start times until 11:59 EST on March 8.
