OUTDOOR RETAILER ANNOUNCES EDUCATION AND EVENTS LINEUP FOR WINTER ONLINE
Industry Breakfast begins winter-long opportunities to learn and connect
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, California – (December 16, 2020) – Outdoor Retailer released the first wave of education and events scheduled for Outdoor Retailer Winter Online. The new digital marketplace and networking event opens January 6, 2021, with the Industry Breakfast followed by key Summit Days from January 20-23, 2021, and ongoing learning opportunities through March 19, 2021. Registered attendees can start building their profiles and make plans to join the sessions today, and access to all on Winter Online begins in January.
“With more than 50 education sessions and events planned, Winter Online truly is a winter-long place to learn and discover ways to help your business, and this community, grow,” said Marisa Nicholson, Outdoor Retailer senior vice president and show director. “We’re excited to have Lindsay Peoples Wagner, editor in chief at Teen Vogue, start it all off with a conversation at the Industry Breakfast on integrating diversity throughout our industry. We’re also looking forward to the third annual Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards and the return of the Backcountry Film Festival. Everyone in our industry won’t want to miss these opportunities to engage with this incredible community.”
Winter Online opens on Wednesday, January 6, with the Industry Breakfast in partnership with Snowsports Industries America (SIA) and the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA). In her keynote presentation, “Inclusivity at the Forefront: The Time Is Now for Brands to Change,” Lindsay Peoples Wagner walks through how the fashion industry is taking meaningful action to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion principles and how the outdoor industry can allow everyone to use their voice. Also, in the lineup on January 6 the NPD Group provides a look at outdoor product trends, SIA hosts a conversation on climate advocacy, and retail veteran Larry Becker dives into the customer experience.
Learning opportunities continue throughout January with topics covering advocacy, climate action, consumer trends, data and marketing insight, diversity, gear innovation, participation, policy and trade, retail operations, sustainability, and more. The Summit Days from January 20-23 feature industry experts leading these conversations, and sessions include panels with The Conservation Alliance, Camber Outdoors, WGSN, and more from the NPD Group. On Tuesday, January 19, SIA provides a full day of education through their Industry + Intelligence sessions covering inclusivity, marketing technology, resort operations, and retail trends. From January 20-23, OIA presents a mid-day series with discussions on Thriving People, a Thriving Planet, and Thriving Outdoor Businesses.
The Summit Days also feature time for the community to stretch, engage, and celebrate.
- Attendees can join morning yoga and meditation sessions.
- The winners of the third annual Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards will be unveiled in a ceremony hosted by L. Renee Blount on Thursday, January 21.
- The 16th Annual Backcountry Film Festival, presented by Winter Wildlands Alliance, screens documentaries and ski movies about athletic pursuit in the mountains, artistic vision, friendship, and how the snowsports community is adapting to a changing environment on Friday, January 22.
Education sessions include a live chat conversation, and all education and events will be available on demand at Winter Online. The schedule will continue to grow, and exhibitors will be hosting events while the event is open.
Winter Online will be accessible throughout the winter season, from January 6 – March 19, 2021. Registration is open now, and education, events, and networking are free with registration.

As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Outdoor Retailer Winter Online replaces the in-person show and brings the winter sports and outdoor communities together this season. With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), the digital marketplace will infer a user’s likes and dislikes, suggest matches, and create a uniquely tailored experience for each user to find products, brands, retailers, and education best suited to their needs. Winter Online will also feature streamlined communication between brands, buyers, and media, including live video conferencing and live one-on-one chats; data-driven lead generation in real time; personalized dashboards and networking opportunities; and a comprehensive schedule of education.
